Volleyball Takes Two at Home Region III Pod

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Community College women's volleyball team won two of their three NJCAA Region III Division III Volleyball matches Saturday afternoon by sweeping Corning Community College and Tompkins Cortland Community College and falling in straight sets to SUNY Broome Community College.

In the Cougars' first matchup of the morning, Genesee defeated the Corning Community College Red Barons 25-22, 27-25, and 25-16. Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto had a team-high 12 kills and nine digs. Grace Masse had a team-high 19 assists. Morgan Mathis had six kills and one ace. Kaitlyn VanSkiver had three aces.

Genesee would play a tough opponent in SUNY Broome in the second match of the day and the Cougars dropped 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 in straight sets. Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto led the way with nine kills, seven digs, and three aces. Grace Masse had eight assists and Neely Abrams had seven assists and seven digs.

The Cougars would rebound quickly in their third match as they swept the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers 26-24, 25-11, and 25-17 in straight sets. Once again, Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto led the way for the Blue and Gold with 11 kills. Grace Masse and Katie Alsworth had a team-high eight assists. Neely Abrams had four digs. 

Genesee (12-9) will travel to North East, Pennsylvania on Saturday to play in the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament, hosted by Mercyhurst North East.
