The No. 5 Genesee Community College women's soccer team captured the Region-III District B title with a 2-1 win over Mohawk Valley Community College in Dryden, NY Oct. 28.

Leah Czechowski gave the Cougars not one, but two leads in the contest with the second time being the charm. Named National Junior College Athletic Association Women's Soccer D-III Player of the Week just 10 days ago, the sophomore has now scored three of the team's four post-season goals.

Czechowski's first goal came midway through the first half after being set-up by Miko Yamashita. Thirteen minutes into the second half, the Hawls tied the game before Czechowski scored the game-winner in the 76th minute with an assist going to Molly Reyngoudt.

Czechowski was named the tournament's most valuable player, while Katline Cartwright and Miko Yamashita joined her on the all-tournament team.

At the opposite end, current NJCAA D-III Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week Jaclyn Guzdek made five saves in the win. Guzdek leads all D-III keepers in clean sheets with a dozen.

Genesee improves to 17-2 on the season as the team is currently riding an eight-game win streak where it has outscored oppositions 31-1.

The Cougars were the only team to move up in the nation's top five in the last NJCAA D-III Women's Soccer National Poll and may move higher after top-seed Erie was eliminated.

The GCC women's soccer team will travel to Rockford, Ill., Nov. 8-11 to compete for a NJCAA D-III national title.
