No. 7 Women’s Soccer Team Hosts JCC Oct. 26 in Region Semis

The No. 7 Genesee Community College women's soccer team will host Jamestown Community College at 7:30 p.m. on the campus' soccer field adjacent to the new Richard C. Call Arena, Oct. 26.

Jamestown earned the right to face Genesee after beating Finger Lakes Community College 2-1 in a sub-regional matchup Oct. 24 that increased the team's current win streak to three.

Jamestown holds the region's 11th seed with a 10-8 overall record and a 7-8 region record.

The Jayhawks rank sixth in the region in goals scored with 62, compared with Genesee's 54 which are just behind Jamestown. However the region's third-seeded Genesee has only allowed 19 goals, compared with the Jayhawks' 41.

Both Genesee and Jamestown met earlier in the month with the Cougars winning 2-0, Oct. 4 on goals by Jayna Wright and Allison Duhow. Miko Yamashita earned an assist, while Jaclyn Guzdek recorded the shutout.

More than half of all Jamestown goals this season have come via two players – Alexa Dix and Courtney Hewes. Dix leads the team in points (47), goals (19) and assists (9), while Hewes is second in all scoring categories with 16 goals and seven assists for 39 points.

Rebecca Butcher has the most minutes in net with 815 for a goals-against average of 2.37 and save percentage of .752.

Genesee is led offensively by the tandem of Yamashita and Katline Cartwright. Yamashita led in points with 30 and is first in assists and goals with 10 in each category. Cartwright is second in points with 28, but first in goals with a dozen. Allison Becker is second on the team in assists with five.

The winner of tomorrow's semifinal matchup will play the winner of Erie/Mohawk Valley in the District B Region III Championship Oct 29 at 1 p.m.
