No. 1 Women’s Soccer Team has 10-game D-III Undefeated Streak Snapped

Women's Soccer - Julie Kommer dribbles down field

The No. 1 Genesee Community College women's soccer team finally succumbed to an opposition in National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association D-III play Oct. 7. It took a high nationally-ranked opponent to do it and it happened on the road.

The Cougars had played four 0-0 halves during its streak and did so again against No. 3 Herkimer in the second half, however an uncharacteristic lapse of a half-dozen minutes in the first did the Cougars in when they lost to the Generals 6-0.

Four of Herkimer's first four goals came within a six-minute span that included some inadvertently going in off Cougar players in a string of unfortunate plays that helped lead to the team's demise.

Jaclyn Guzdek and Rachel Meyer split time as both Cougar goalkeepers combining for six saves on the day.

The Cougars had built a 10-game D-III undefeated streak since the beginning of the season and had out-scored its opposition 28-6 during that span that included seven shutouts.

Genesee continues on the road with a 4 p.m. contest at Finger Lakes Community College Oct.11.
