Women's Soccer Team Announced as No. 1

Women's Soccer NJCAA Rankings - Genesee #1

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team spiked to the top of the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association D-III National Poll as the No. 1 team after posting the only unblemished record of any team in the national rankings at 8-0-0.

The Cougars also moved up the most positions (three) from last week's poll where they were at No. 4 and replace their opponent this Thursday – Erie Community College, who dropped to second after accumulating a pair of losses. NJCAA Region III teams dominated today's poll as the top-three teams with Herkimer securing the third spot.

What is probably even as impressive as the No. 1 ranking is the offensive team effort behind it with no leaders in goals, assists or points in the nation's top-10, although the team is fourth in shots with 142.

Defensively, the backs have been solid in supporting both goalkeepers and have a string of four-consecutive shutout wins and six overall on the season. The team's starting keeper, Jaclyn Guzdek, hasn't allowed a goal in over 300 minutes going back to the first half of a game at Corning nearly three weeks ago (Sept. 6).
