No. 4 Women’s Soccer Team Improves to 8-0

Women's Soccer - Julie Kommer dribbles down field

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team hosted Hudson Valley Community College Sept. 24 and improved their record to a perfect 8-0 on the season with a 1-0 win for their fourth-consecutive shutout and sixth on the season.

Although the contest was just a one-goal affair, almost all of the action was in Hudson Valley's defensive end. Jaclyn Guzdek earned another shutout while the Cougars out-shot the Vikings 19-1 for the game.

Julie Kommer netted the game-winning goal early on in the first with an assist from Katline Cartwright. Miko Yamashita was Genesee's most dominant player with a team-high five shots.

The Vikings entered the game after knocking off the top team in the nation – Erie – by a 3-2 score the previous day.

The Cougars hope to move up in this week's national poll now that they are only one of two nationally-ranked teams with an unblemished record - with the other being Herkimer, who like the Cougars are also 8-0.

The Cougars next host Division-I Monroe Community College Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. The Tribunes have just one loss – in overtime – this season. The game with be live-streamed at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/59y5DKH5kFN
