No. 7 Cougars Edge Corning CC 2-1

Up a spot to No. 7 in this week's NJCAA National Poll, the GCC women's soccer team won its third straight game on Wednesday afternoon, dropping visiting Corning CC 2-1.

Emma Lewis put the Cougars on the board first in the 29th minute with her first goal of the season. The freshman cashed in on a pass from Kelsey Scott-Avery to beat the Red Barons goalkeeper.

Corning tied the game in the second half in the 55th minute, just the second goal that GCC has allowed so far this season.

The game remained tied late into the second half before Gabriella Garcea collected a long pass from Jayna Wright in the 85th minute and put away the eventual game-winner to give Genesee a 2-1 lead. The goal was her first of the season.

GCC goalkeeper Katlynne Tubo faced just four shots in the game and made three saves, lowering her goals against average to 0.65 this season.

Genesee (3-1) will return to action at home on Saturday when it hosts Tompkins-Cortland CC. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
