Cougars Drop Season Opener to Knights

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Community College women's lacrosse team dropped their 2019 season opener 17-7 to CCBC Essex Knights Saturday afternoon.

After trailing early in the game, Ashley Barclay got the Cougars on the board with 11 minutes remaining in the opening half. Barclay would get her second of the game just four minutes later to cut the lead to 7-2. Riley Marconi made it 7-3, and then Rachel Ladd scored two goals to cut the Knight's lead to 8-5 at halftime.

Bri Heers scored from Allison Becker to make it 8-6 just minutes into the second half. Hannah Kirisits scored to make it 9-7 with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Then the Knights would put the game firmly in their control, scoring the next eight goals to pull away to the 17-7 victory. The Cougars played a player-down for majority of the second half. Ryley O'Mara made nine saves in net for Genesee.

The Cougars (0-1) will be in action on Wednesday at Onondaga Community College. First face-off is scheduled for 6pm.
