WNYAC Recognizes Five From Women's Lacrosse

The GCC women's lacrosse team recently placed five student athletes on the All-Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Teams, earning postseason recognition for their performance throughout the spring. Named to the all-conference first team were freshmen Molly Barden and Kali Wright, and named to the second team were freshmen Leah Herman, Sara Zakes and Momoka Masuda.

Barden, an attack, let Genesee in goals this spring with 19, the 10th highest total in the conference. She scored a season-high six goals in a win against Mohawk Valley CC on Apr. 8, and led the Cougars with 36 draw controls and 23 ground balls this season.

Wright scored three goals and had two assists from her midfield position and was second on the team in ground balls (19) and third in draw controls (18). She appeared in all seven of GCC's games and made five starts this season.

Herman secured the second-most draw controls for Genesee this spring with 21. A defender, she collected 10 ground balls and had two assists this spring, playing in all seven games.

Zakes was third in the conference in saves this season with 57, and third in save percentage with a 39.3% mark. She was the winning goalkeeper in both of GCC's wins this season and logged over 328 minutes in net, starting six of Genesee's seven games.

Masuda was second on the team in goals with five and second in points with seven. She finished the season with 13 ground balls as an attack and appeared in all seven games.

Genesee finished the season with a 2-5 record, its first intercollegiate competitive season since the spring of 2015.
