Genesee Edges Finger Lakes in Regular Season Home Finale

Genesee made it three in a row on Wednesday night and picked up a win in its final regular season home game of the season, holding off visiting Finger Lakes CC in a non-conference matchup, 61-56. The Cougars pushed their overall record to 13-16 on the year and end the regular season with a 7-7 record at home.

GCC built a 14 point lead in the first half despite committing 12 turnovers. Norvonee Hall scored six of her 10 first half points in the second quarter, and hit a jumper with 4:23 to play in the half to give Genesee a 29-15 lead.

FLCC got back to within seven at the break, and outscored GCC 16-11, including an 11-3 run to end the third quarter, to cut the deficit to just two.

The Lakers tied the game at 49 apiece with six minutes to go, and took a 54-53 lead with just under three to play.

GCC responded with a five straight points capped off by a Lauren Watson three-point basket, and held on to the lead for good, ending the game on an 8-2 run.

Hall finished with a team high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Brionna Blocker added 18 points and 13 boards, Rosalyn Sealey finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, and Kelsey Scott-Avery and Kiyomi Nakakoji, who was 2-2 from three-point range, added six points apiece.

Genesee will travel to Jamestown CC tomorrow for its final regular season game. The Western New York Athletic Conference contest will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
