Genesee Dropped by Hot-Shooting Villa Maria

Visiting Villa Maria College connected on 19 three-point baskets against the GCC women's basketball team on Monday night, sinking the Cougars in a non-conference matchup 99-73. The loss was Genesee's third straight, dropping its overall record to 7-12.

The Vikings jumped out to a 30-16 lead after the first quarter and went off for 10 first half threes to build a 15 point halftime lead.

Despite the deficit, Genesee fought back in the second half and got to within six halfway through the third quarter. Lauren Watson hit back-to-back threes to spark a 10-0 GCC run, and after consecutive layups from Rosalyn Sealey and Brionna Blocker, the Cougars were within 56-50.

Villa Maria ended the GCC run on its next possession, connecting on a three to extend its lead back to nine. The Vikings ended the game on a 43-23 run and limited Genesee to just 11 fourth quarter points to earn the win.

Sealey led the Cougars in scoring with 21 points and also collected 12 rebounds. Blocker recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, Norvonee Hall grabbed 22 boards and scored 13 points, Watson finished with 16 points and Kelsey Scott-Avery added 7 points.

Genesee will get back into Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) action on Wednesday at home. The Cougars will host Monroe CC for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
