Hall's Double-Double Helps Genesee Past Lakeland

The Genesee women's basketball team bounced back after a Friday night loss to Garrett College behind a big game from Norvonee Hall, who recorded her eighth double-double of the season to help the Cougars knock off visiting Lakeland CC, 61-50.

The freshman finished Sunday afternoon's game with 21 points and 25 rebounds to lead all players in both categories.

Despite starting the game 2 for 17 from the field and managing just five first quarter points, GCC battled to a halftime lead. Kelsey Scott-Avery scored five in a row early in the second, cashing in on one of her two 3pt baskets in the game to give Genesee its first lead of the game.

The Cougars came out fast to start the second half, scoring the first eight points to stretch its lead to 10. Lauren Watson and Rosalyn Sealey hit back-to-back threes out of the gate and GCC did not look back.

Watson scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half and Brionna Blocker also recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

GCC finished the game plus-10 in rebounding and dished out 18 assists as a team.

Genesee's win is its fourth of the season as the Cougars improve to 4-7. GCC will end the first semester at home on Tuesday against Sheridan College. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
