Cougar Swimmers Take 19 Wins and Runner-ups at MCC

The Genesee Community College men's and women's swimming teams took part in a four-school event at the Monroe Community College Invitational Dec. 2 and recorded 19 combined first- and second-place finishes with the men's team obtaining 13 and the women's team six.

Leading the way for the men's team was Joan Ferrer and Ferran Martinez, who each captured a pair of wins. Joining Ferrer and Martinez with a pair of top-two finishes was Nathan Richardson, while the men's team took first in the 800-yard freestyle relay and the second in the 200-yard medley relay.

Leading the way for the women's team was Angel Priest and Nanako Shiozawa with both earning a pair of top-two finishes. Shiozawa won the 100-yard individual medley and took second in the 50-yard butterfly, while Priest captured two runner-up finishes in the 100-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. The women's team also finished second in two relay races – the 200-yard medley and the 800-yard freestyle.

In addition to Ferrer, Martinez and Richardson, two other men's team members also captured  a first-place finish. Brandon Brown was first in the 50-yard freestyle, while Ryan Mahaney won the 100-yard freestyle. Joining Richardson with runner-up accolades was Benjamin Vacanti in the 200-yard freestyle and Bryant Springett in the 50-yard breaststroke.

The Cougars next travel to Roberts Wesleyan College Dec. 9 for a 1 p.m. event.
