Cougar Swimmers Take Six Events at MCC

GCC Swimmer in competition, mid stroke

The Genesee Community College men's and women's swimming teams combined to take six events at Monroe Community College Nov. 8.

The wins were not enough to overtake the Tribines, who bested both Cougar teams in both the men's and women's scores, 131-88 and 116-40, respectively.

Matthew Langerman and Ferran Martinez each won a pair of events and then combined with Brandon Brown and Joan Ferrer to capture the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Langerman won the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle, while Martinez took the 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard individual medley (IM).

Natalie Amico won the 500-yard freestyle for the women and had one of the women's team's four runner-up finishes.

In events with three or more participants, the Cougars took eight second-places, four apiece for the men and women swimmers.

Angel Priest finished runner-up in two events (100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke), while Nanako Shiozawa finished second in the 400-yard IM and Amico in the 200-yard freestyle.

Joan Ferrer also had a pair of runner-up finishes, but for the men's team. He was second in a pair of freestyle races (100 and 200 yard), while Nathan Richardson finished second in the 200-yard backstroke; and also contributed to the men's 400-yard medley relay team that captured second place along with Ryan Mahaney, Bryant Springett, and Benjamin Vacanti.

The Cougar swim teams next travel to Potsdam for the North Country Invitational Nov. 17-18 with a 4 p.m. start time on Nov. 17 and 10 a.m. start on Nov. 18.
