BUFFALO: The Genesee CC men's and women's swimming and diving teams reached the podium with top eight finishes more than 18 total times at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships, setting numerous school records throughout the four-day event at Erie CC's Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
Kyle Podlaski highlighted the championships for the Cougars by earning All-American status with a fourth place finish in the men's 1000 free, swimming the race in 10:17.62. He also reached the podium with an eighth place finish in the 400 IM with a finishing time of 4:25.71 and an eighth place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.81.
Joan Ferrer finished in the top eight in the 500 free, earning hardware with a sixth place finish with a time of 4:52.30. He also set the school record in the 200 free (1:45.97), finishing in ninth place.
Matthew Langerman earned a top eight finish in the men's 1650 free, swimming the race in 17:45.17 to finish seventh.
Thomas Slenker totaled 245.50 points in the men's 3 meter diving to finish seventh, and finished with 304.45 points in the 1 meter diving to earn another seventh place finish. Denzel Flowers came in 10th in the 1 meter diving with 230.70 points.
Angel Priest reached the winners stand with a seventh place finish in the 50 back (29.68) and an eighth place finish in the 100 IM (1:05.12).
Miranda Dunton and Lindsay Harloff each made it in the top eight in the women's 1000 free, finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Dunton finished the race in 11:39.50 and Harloff swam a time of 11:47.79. Dunton also finished sixth in the 1650 free (19:20.02).
The Genesee relay teams finished in the top eight a total of eight times. The women's 200 free relay team set the school record and earned a seventh place finish with an end time of 1:47.68. The women also reached the podium with an eighth place finish in the 200 medley (2:05.51) a seventh place finish in the 400 free (3:56.20) and a seventh place finish in the 800 free (8:41.68).
The men's 400 medley relay team broke the school record with a finishing time of 3:49.58 and finished in eighth place. The men also finished in the top eight in the 200 medley (1:45.01- 8th), 400 free (3:26.08- 8th), and the 800 free (7:31.50- 7th).
The GCC men finished in eighth place with a total of 269 points and the women ended in seventh place with a total of 209.5 points. Indian River State College's men's and women's teams each won with 1293 and 1210 points, respectively.
