Genesee Softball Earns Conference and Region Awards

BATAVIA, NY… Fresh off an appearance in the NJCAA Region III-A Championships, the Genesee Community College softball team had several members be named to regional and conference all-conference teams.

Genesee head coach Taylor Maurer was named Western New York Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, leading the Cougars to the NJCAA Region III –A Championships. It was Maurer's first Conference Coach of the Year honor to go with her Region III Coach of the Year award from couple of seasons ago.  

Batavia native Taylor Stefaniak was named to the NJCAA Region III All-Region 1st team. Stefaniak led the team in several offensive statistical categories, including runs scored, hits, doubles, and triples. Taylor hit .486 this season. She was second on the team in RBI's and was second on the team in homeruns.

Stefaniak joined LeRoy's Erin Cappotelli by being named to the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) All-Conference 1st team. In 34 games played this season, the freshman infielder hit .425 with four homeruns and had 27 RBI's.

Medina native Emily Kams, Caledonia's Gillian Flint, Albion's Bella Prest, and Batavia's Kennedy Lampart were all named to the WNYAC All-Conference 2nd team. Pitcher Emily Kams started 13 games for Genesee this season with an ERA of 2.87. Outfielder Gillian Flint had an .327 average this past season with five stolen bases. Utility player Bella Prest appeared in 28 games and had an on base percentage of .321. Catcher Kennedy Lampart hit .320 and drove in 13 runs and started all 34 games this season.
