Genesee Splits Monroe

HENRIETTA, NY – The Genesee Community College softball team earned a split with Western New York Athletic Conference foe Monroe Community College Tribunes Thursday afternoon. The Cougars took game one 5-1, and fell in the nightcap 4-1.  

Erin Capotelli hit a two-run home run in the third inning to get Genesee on the board. Jacyln Guzdek had an RBI double in the sixth driving in Emily Kams. Mikayla Bush scored in the fifth inning.  

Emily Kams threw a complete game, striking out four and giving up one run on six hits to earn the win, her sixth of the season.

Game two of the doubleheader saw the Cougars struggle to get any kind of offense going against the Tribunes. Taylor Stefaniak had a double and scored a run of a sacrifice from Gillian Flint. Brittany Cole pitched for Genesee, striking out two in the loss.

The Cougars stand at 8-11 on the season and 3-4 in Western New York Athletic Conference play, and 7-2 in NJCAA Region III competition.  Genesee is home on Saturday as the Herkimer College Generals (24-6, 9-1) come to town. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1pm.
