BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Women's Softball team took the home field on Thursday, April 11 for an NJCAA Region III contest against the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers, and came away with a sweep on the day, winning 5-2 and 10-0.

The Cougars started off strong, scoring their first three runs off of two home-runs from Kennedy Lampart (Batavia) and Erin Capotelli (LeRoy), respectively. The Cannoneers got back into the game, cutting Genesee's lead to 3-2, but the women's excellent defensive play along with the pitching of Emily Kams (Medina) was able to seal the deal to pick up a 5-2 victory.

Game two saw similar results, as a complete Genesee team put up 10 unanswered runs, including five in the fifth. The pitching of Brittany Cole (Baldwinsville) shut the Cannoneers down from the second inning on, leading to the shutout victory.

Genesee (5-9), winners of four straight, returns home Saturday for a WNYAC battle with the Erie Community College Kats. First pitch is at 1pm and game two will start around 3pm.
