Mackenzie Weber (Wayland) became the first player in GCC softball history to earn back-to-back All-American honors after the sophomore pitcher was named to the All-American First Team for 2017. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced its list of All-Americans on June 9th.
Weber's list of accomplishes this season include being named the Region III Player of the Year, the GCC Female Athlete of the Year, a SUNY Scholar Athlete, All-Region III and All-Western New York Athletic Conference.
On the mound, Weber won 15 games and struck out 90 batters, pitching to a 4.28 earned run average. At the plate, she batted .559 and hit 12 home runs, the second highest home run total in the country. She set the GCC career record for most home runs (21), batting average (.526), runs scored (78), walks (33), doubles (28) and runs batted in (82), and set the single season record for home runs, runs batted in (55), walks (22) and doubles (16).
Weber became just the second GCC softball player to garner All-American honors last season when she was selected to the second team, and leaves Genesee as the only two-time All-American after her selection this season.
Genesee finished the season with a 19-16 overall record and advanced to the regional final four for the second time in the last three seasons. The Cougars lost to Herkimer College in two games in the Region III-A Finals series, but set the team record for most home runs in a season with 23 and tied the single season record for most doubles with 66.
