The GCC softball team totaled 30 runs in two wins against visiting SUNY Broome on Wednesday afternoon, hitting four home runs along the way to its first doubleheader sweep of the season.

Mackenzie Weber hit two home runs in game one, helping Genesee to a 15-5 win in six innings.

Weber launched her first home run in the bottom of the first, a three-run shot that scored Sydney Brenton and Shiori Ubukata who doubled and singled respectively.

It was a 5-5 game in the fourth before the Cougars blew it open with an eight run inning. Genesee sent all nine hitters to the plate and tallied six hits, including doubles from Brenton and Abigail Noeth. Noeth also drove in two runs and Raeha Dixon added a two-run single in the frame.

The Cougars added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to help starting pitcher Karli Phillips, who allowed five runs through five innings of work, to the win.

Brenton finished game one 2-4 and scored three runs, Weber was 3-4 with six RBI's and three runs scored, Ubukata scored three times and picked up three hits, Phillips went 1-2 with a triple and a run scored and Noeth added two hits and scored a run.

Weber threw five shutout innings in game two en-route to a 15-0 mercy rule win in five innings. She allowed just four hits and struck out four.

Brenton led off game two with a solo home run and Phillips went deep in a seven-run fourth inning to continue the offense.

Phillips finished the game 1-2, drawing a pair of walks and scoring three times. Faye Conley was 2-4 with two runs scored, Marissa Draper added two hits and scored once, Joelle Kaminski scored twice and added a hit and Amanda Stratton was 3-4 with two runs scored.

Genesee improves to 5-5 on the season and will travel to Onondaga CC for a single game on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
