Genesee Community College student athletes Ed Port and Adrian Bergman both were named National Junior College Athletic Association Players of the Week Wednesday afternoon for their performances through Oct. 7.

Port was named NJCAA D-III Men's Soccer Player of the Week and Bergman garnered NJCAA D-III Men's Goalkeeper of the Week. The pair was instrumental in upsetting No. 1-ranked Herkimer last week with a 2-0 shutout win.

Overall, it was the seventh and eighth time this fall that a GCC athlete was recognized with a weekly national player honor and it was the third-consecutive week two Cougars captured national player of week honors for contests played from the start of the 2018 fall season.

Port's selection was the third-consecutive week that a Cougar was the NJCAA's D-III Men's Soccer Player of the Week and finished last week as the nation's top player in assists with 16.

In men's soccer, Port joins two-time winner Rodrigo Albuquerque for three total selections, while Bergman's selection is the first in men's soccer goalkeeper accolades.

In women's soccer, Jaclyn Guzdek has been tabbed as the top national goalkeeper, while Katline Cartwright has been awarded the top player.

In volleyball, Lyndsey Rowland and Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto each were acknowledged nationally with the former as the top defensive player and the latter as the top offensive player at D-III.
