No. 4 Men’s Soccer Team Extends Win Streak to Five

Barros de Souza

The No. 4 Genesee Community College men's soccer team extended its win streak to five games with a 4-0 road victory over Jamestown Community College Oct. 3.

Eight was the theme for the night as the team captured its eighth-consecutive Western New York Athletic Conference men's soccer title with its eighth shutout of the season.

Hiago Barros de Souza provided all the offense the Cougars would need after scoring the team's first two goals.

Hijiri Sano and James Lighton rounded out the team's goal scorers. Ed Port added a pair of helpers, while Leo Anthony also added one assist.

The stout Cougar defense has allowed only a half-dozen goals in 12 outings so far this season as it prepares for perhaps its toughest contest of the season this weekend against current No. 1 –ranked and undefeated Herkimer.

Genesee peppered Jamestown's net with a 32-4 shot advantage with 19 on net in the second half. Part of Genesee's offensive dominance was the result of a 16-0 edge in corner kicks for the Cougars in the offensive end, while keeper Adrian Bergman recorded three saves in the defensive end for Genesee.

The Cougars return home for a three-game home stand that begins against No. 1 Herkimer Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. this weekend.
