No. 5 Men’s Soccer Team Rallies for Come-from-Behind 2 OT Win

Men's Soccer player scores a goal in overtime

The Genesee Community College men's soccer team increased its winning streak to five games with a come-from-behind 2-1 double-overtime win over visiting Cayuga Community College Sept. 20.

The Spartans proved to be a formidable opponent entering the game with a 5-1 record and a three-game win streak of their own. In what was perhaps one of the more physical games of the young season, the teams defensively postured back-and-forth in not allowing many opportunities with just 10 shots between the two teams during regulation.

Cayuga came away with the only goal of the first half about 20 minutes into the contest as Genesee was unable to break through with any quality scoring chances.

In the second half, the Cougars attacked with shorter passes and it paid off with Narhum Nivillac converting a Billy Murphy feed to tie the contest with about 30 minutes left in regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime with Genesee generating the only shot on net, the Cougars upped their game with a pair of shots in the second overtime and Iyad Lablack netted the game winner after a Ryan Price feed found the sophomore alone in front of the net in a one-on-one situation with the Spartan keeper.

Current National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer D-III Goalie of the Week David Ormiston finished the contest with three saves with one coming in double overtime.

The men's team will attempt to get their sixth-consecutive win when they host Hudson Valley Community College Sept. 24 with the game available for view through live streaming at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/59y5DKH5kFN
