No. 6 Cougars Tabbed Second Seed in Regional Tournament

The No. 6 nationally ranked GCC men's soccer team will represent the number two seed in this year's Region III Division III Men's Soccer Championships after finishing the regular season with a 12-1-2 overall record. The Cougars will vie for their second consecutive regional title after capturing the District A championship in 2015.

Genesee will begin the tournament at home on Wednesday, hosting No. 7 seed SUNY Adirondack CC in the District B semifinals at 3 p.m. The Cougars defeated the Timberwolves during the regular season 8-0 on Sept. 18 and compiled a 7-1-1 record at home this year.

GCC's powerful offense tallied the second-most goals in the country this season with 95, five behind national leader Suffolk CC. 2015 All-American William Stone leads the country in total points with 60 and teammate and fellow All-American Rafael Godoi is tied for fifth with 52.

The Cougars won the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) title for the sixth straight season; unbeaten in three conference games during the fall. GCC has advanced to the regional finals in each of the last five seasons and have won two Region III championships since 2011.

Goalkeeper David Ormiston has held opponents to less than a goal per game, allowing just an average of 0.72 goals per contest. The freshman has recorded seven shutouts and the Genesee defense, led by sophomore Samuel King and freshmen Glenn Holmes, Charlie Livesey, Edward Gadd and Tate Dean, have helped to hold opponents scoreless in 10 total contests this fall.
