No. 5 Genesee Falls to No. 3 Herkimer in OT in Battle of Unbeaten Teams

In a battle of unbeaten and nationally ranked teams, the No. 5 GCC men's soccer team could not hold off No. 3 Herkimer College on Saturday, falling in overtime 3-2.

Genesee held a two goal lead early in the second half, but could not maintain it, falling for the first time in the regular season since the fall of 2014.

Sofiane Hamidi gave GCC a 1-0 lead in the first half, scoring his eighth goal of the season in the 32nd minute. He cashed in on a corner kick that was sent into the box by Charlie Livesey.

Still a one goal Genesee lead into the second half, William Stone extended it to two with his team-leading 20th goal of the season in the 58th minute off of a pass from Hamadi.

Herkimer would respond and in the 62nd minute made it a one score game before tying it just four minutes later.

After nearly 25 minutes of scoreless play ended regulation, the game went to overtime when with just 49 seconds left in the first OT, the Generals scored to win it, ending GCC's unbeaten season.

Cougars' goalkeeper David Ormiston made five saves in net and GCC outshot Herkimer 8-4 in shots on net.

Genesee (10-1-2) will travel to Mercyhurst University North East for its next contest on Oct. 18.
