GCC men's soccer defender Dean Byrne (County Laois, Ireland) will continue his academic and athletic career at Concord University (W.V.) this fall after signing a National Letter of Intent to join the Mountain Lions soccer program.
Byrne was a two-time All-Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) selection and an All-Region III selection in 2014. He started all but one of the 36 games he appeared in during his two year career at GCC and was a team captain in 2015.
Concord is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) member school and competes at the Division II level in the Mountain East Conference (MEC). The Mountain Lions are coached by Steve Barrett, who will enter his 13th season in 2016.
Genesee reached the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament for the second time in the program's history in 2015 after winning the Region III Group A title. The Cougars ended the season with a 20-1 overall record, the highest single-season win total in school history.
Byrne will receive scholarship to attend DSU and will study Sports Management.
