Men’s Lacrosse Team Names Captains and Comes in at No. 3 in First 2018 NJCAA Poll

The Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team enters the season at No. 3 in the first National Junior College Athletic Association Poll for 2018 by coaches.

The Cougars will look to return as national champions from two seasons ago after losing a heartbreaking one-goal game last season in the Final Four to Howard Community College 14-13.

This year's national championship will again be in Syracuse with the Final Four competing May 12-13.

The GCC men's lacrosse coaching staff announced its four captains for the 2018 season that include Mathew Anderson, Samuel Koczwara, Alex Mack, and Patrick Shea.

Mathew Anderson is a defender, who has been a  four-year varsity letterman and a two- time, first team all-state and all-conference defender from Groham, Maine.

Samuel Koczwara, a midfielder from Mount Hawthorn, Australia, was on the Australian National Team for the U19 World Championships in 2016, and has captained many teams overseas.

Alex Mack started all 14 games at attack last year and was selected as a NJCAA Region-III second team selection after scoring 67 points from 49 goals and 18 assists.

Patrick Shea will help lead the defensive unit as he returns from injury that allowed him limited action last season.

Genesee is a member of the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) and NJCAA Region III. This year's schedule is highlighted with games against Howard CC, CCBC- Essex, Nassau CC, and Onondaga CC.
