Cougars Rebound to Drop Monroe; Notch 100th Win for Program

The GCC men's lacrosse team rebounded after an overtime loss at Nassau CC on Saturday to earn its 100th win as a program, dropping Monroe CC 15-3 on Tuesday at Genesee Community College.

Pat Van Bortle led the offensive charge with eight points, scoring four goals and assisting on four. Seth Ferguson and Sherman Williams each added three goals apiece and Baden Boyenko chipped in two goals and two assists.

The Cougars held a 3-1 lead after the first quarter before stretching the margin to five with a 7-2 lead at the half.

Genesee tallied five goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth, and held the Tribunes to just one second half goal to secure the win.

Darin Eakins logged the first three quarters in goal and made seven saves before giving way to Garrett Lazore who stopped five shots in one period of work.

Connor Harman collected five ground balls and caused five turnovers for the Genesee defense.

The 100th win for Genesee comes in just its 10th season as a program. The Cougars improve their overall season record to 3-1 and are now 1-0 in Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) play. Genesee will host Onondaga CC in a rematch of last year's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
