DRYDEN, NY: The No. 4 nationally-ranked GCC men's lacrosse team rolled to a season opening win on Saturday afternoon, dropping Tompkins-Cortland Community College on the road 24-2.
Genesee shut the Panthers out through the first three quarters of play, leading 6-0 after the first quarter, 12-0 at the half and 16-0 going into the fourth. TC3 was able to get on the board with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter.
Reed Hnidy led a strong defensive effort with five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Jake Wittmeyer had three takeaways and three ground balls and James Deakin caused two turnovers and collected seven ground balls.
Mike Caternolo was 25 for 26 at face-offs on the afternoon and had 15 ground balls. Darin Eakins earned the win in net making three saves during the first half before giving way to Corey Luty and Parker Phillips who split duties in the second half.
Genesee (1-0) will travel to No. 5 Anne Arundel CC for its next contest on Thursday at 5 p.m.
