Genesee Sweeps Cougar Holiday Classic

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Community College men's basketball team earned their eighth and ninth victories of the season over the weekend in the annual Cougar Holiday Classic.

On Saturday, Genesee defeated NY International Academy 88-75. Only leading by one point going into halftime, the Cougars pulled away in the second half and outscored the Eagles 51-39 to secure the win. Genesee's opponent on Sunday evening was the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (Ohio) and the Cougars came out with an 83-77 victory.  

Jamir Cheek was the Cougar Holiday Classic MVP as he scored 17 points and 13 rebounds on Saturday and added 11 points, 8 rebounds and handed out eight assists on Sunday against the Bobcats. Jarett Haines and Shaquille Ricks were also named to the All-Tournament team. Ricks had a double-double on Sunday with 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead Genesee to the win. Other members of the All-Tournament team include Fode Camara (Niagara County Community College), Matthew Hull (St John Fisher College JV), and Jalen Kelso (NY International Academy).

Genesee (9-2) travel next weekend to participate in the Thunderwolves Classic at Niagara County Community College.
