KISSIMMEE, FL – The Genesee Community College baseball team jumped out to a 5-0 lead but needed clutch pitching and two double plays to hold on and defeat Lewis & Clark Community College (Ill.), 6-4.

Tyler Prospero (Batavia Notre Dame) picked up his second win of the season, striking out two over five innings. Anthony Kanaval (Dansville) came in relief in the sixth with the bases loaded and only one out with GCC (5-1) holding on to a 5-4 lead.

Kanaval got a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning. In the seventh, Kanaval made a great play on a bunt to get an out at first, but Lewis & Clark had runners on second and third. Ryan Voss (Barker) came in with one out and caught a sharp line drive, then threw a runner out at third to end the game with a double play.

At the plate for Genesee, Eliel Martinez was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs while Deion Rosalia had two doubles and Jordi Agosto had a single and drove in two runs.

John Faynor (Northstar Christian) has been the most consistent hitter in the Genesee lineup, and he continued his hot streak by going 3-for-3 with a run. Gabe Diaz and Briann Castillo added RBI's.

"To be where we are at this point is very good," said Genesee coach Skip Sherman. "Games like this will prepare us for a tough Region III schedule."

Genesee takes on one of the top-ranked programs in the nation, Heartland Community College in a doubleheader Monday to end the spring trip to the RussMatt Florida Classic.
