Cougars’ Unanswered 14-Run Rally Too Much for Red Barons

The Genesee Community College baseball team entered the bottom of the first inning trailing 2-0, but started a rally that produced 14 unanswered runs on their way to a 14-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader. The first game saw Genesee allow five runs in the first two innings with the team's rally close to tying the game before falling on the short end of a 5-4 contest.

The second game produced 11 hits with a pair each from the bats of L'Shandry Kirindongo, Junior King and Justin Baly, with the latter plating a triple.

Shannon Folkes had a double with single hits from Justin Taveras, Bryant Fontanez, Peter Bradford, and Andrew Shapiro.

Jakob MacLeod allowed just two hits in earning the win from the bump with three strikeouts through four innings.

In the first game, Genesee scored runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings and appeared to be just a swing away from either tying or winning the game after stranding a pair of runners at the end of its rally.

Taveras had a solo homerun in that game with a pair of hits coming from Folkes. Genesee had six hits with the rest coming from Edgardo Jurado, Deion Rosalia, and Colin Noeth.

Zachery Zinck took the loss from the mound in allowing just three earned runs off five hits with nine strikeouts.

The Cougars complete a home-and-home series at Corning May 3 with 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. starts.
