Opening Baseball Meeting Slated for Wednesday Aug. 23

The Genesee Community College baseball program will kick-off its 2017 fall season with a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 23 in room 102 of the Technology Building (T-102) at 4 p.m.

Head baseball coach Skip Sherman will provide an overview of the program (including expectations) and be available to answer questions from perspective players and their families; all are welcome!

Student-athletes should bring a completed medical form from a medical professional giving medical clearance to participate via physical exam (for those that may not have that documentation or a physical scheduled with their own doctor, the college can provide that service Aug. 24 between 12:30 – 2 p.m.). Also, $30 is needed to cover the cost of a GCC baseball hat and GCC baseball t-shirt.

A welcome from athletic director Kristen Schuth is scheduled Aug. 24 at 2:30 p.m. with the first practice to follow on Saturday, Aug. 26 starting at 10 a.m. with a pro-style showcase.

Once a player has received medical clearance and purchased a hat and t-shirt, the following equipment should be brought to any baseball activity or practice:

•             Two pair of grey baseball pants and a black baseball belt.

•             At least two pair of black baseball socks

•             Two plain, black t-shirts.

•             One pair of grey shorts.

•             Baseball shoes (MOSTLY BLACK SHOES ARE REQUIRED FOR GAMES)

•             Any other personal equipment such as; helmets, catchers gear, etc.

Game action begins with a pair of home double headers Labor Day weekend with matchups against the Ontario Royals (Sept. 2 @ 12:30 p.m.) and Durham College (Sept. 3 @ 12 p.m.).
