Genesee Falls to Monroe in Doubleheader Sweep

The GCC baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Monroe CC on Saturday and lost the season series 4-0 to the Tribunes, falling 14-2 in game one and 11-10 in extra innings in game two.

Elias Montero took the loss on the mound for GCC in game one, hurling four plus innings allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out four.

Genesee managed just four hits in the first game and scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. Joseph DeFelice led off the frame with a double and scored on an RBI single by Rodolfo Rodriguez. Rodriguez then scored on Tribunes error in the field.

Henry Delgado delivered one of GCC's four hits, a lead-off single in the first, and Rodriguez, DeFelice and Brandon Henshaw each had a hit apiece.

GCC was within one out of taking game two, but a pair of throwing errors allowed MCC to tie the game at 10 apiece in the top of the seventh.

Genesee trailed 7-6 in the fourth but capitalized on three MCC errors to bring across the tying run. With extra life in the inning, the Cougars took advantage and Imanuel Gonzalez gave GCC a 9-7 lead with a two run single.

The Cougars worked out of trouble in the fifth after Monroe loaded the bases with just one out. Pitcher Jacob Cross induced a ground ball and after the force out was made at second base, runner's interference was called and the inning ended thanks to the double play.

Cory Regnet extended the Genesee lead to 10-7 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, but defensive woes proved costly in the seventh and Monroe won the game in the eighth with a run in the top of the inning.

Genesee falls to 14-12 on the year and will return to action at home on Tuesday when Onondaga CC visits for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
