Lakers Sweep at Monroe Community College POD

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball improved their record to 7-6 on the season and extended their winning streak to 5 at the Monroe Community College POD.

Lakers vs. SUNY Adirondack

The Lakers picked up a 3-0 sweep over SUNY Adirondack, taking sets 1-3, 25-11, 25-9, and 25-13. Freshman Megan Sanford (Campbell, N.Y./ Campbell-Savona) helped lead the Lakers to the win with 7 kills and 1 block solo. Teammate Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) followed with an impressive performance of her own, with 10 kills and 4 digs.

Sophomore Meghan Johnson (Phelps, N.Y./ Newark) put together one of her best performances of the season, adding in 7 ills, 2 aces, and 7 digs in the match. Freshman teammates Sage Barnedo (Silver Springs, M.D./ Springbrook) and Adrianna Botello (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) helped set up their teammates, with Botello adding 12 assists and 6 digs, while Barnedo added 11 assists, 5 aces, and 8 digs.

Freshman Olivia Sheehan (Irondequoit, N.Y./ West Irondequoit) helped guide the team to victory, tallying 2 assists, 4 aces, and 10 digs.

 Lakers vs. Genesee Community College

The Lakers followed up their sweep against SUNY Adirondack with another one against the Cougars of Genesee Community College. The team continued their dominance, finishing sets 1-3, 25-12, 25-15, and 25-11.

Brooke DeGroff and Olivia Sheehan followed up impressive performances, with DeGroff tallying 14 points with 11 kills, 3 aces, and 17 digs. Sheehan would follow with 3 aces and 19 digs, good for 3 points.

Kierstin Comerford (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) and Kaidyn VanDelinder (Gananda, N.Y./ Gananda) would each play all three sets. Comerford would add 1 ace and 3 digs, while VanDelinder would tally 3 kills. Sophomores Kayla Fetcie (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) and Meghan Johnson helped lead the team. Fetcie added 5 kills, 2 aces, and 5 digs, while Johnson contributed 6 kills and 15 digs.

Lakers vs. Hudson Valley Community College

The Lakers found their greatest opposition against the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College. Despite a dominant first set victory of 25-5, the Lakers would take set two by a narrow score of 25-19. The Vikings would battle back to take set three 26-24, before the Lakers finished the game in the fourth set, 25-10.

Freshman Megan Sanford put together her most impressive performance of the season with 11 kills, 1 block solo, and 2 block assists. Teammate Kaidyn VanDelinder would put together one of her best games as well, tallying 9 kills, 2 digs, and 3 block assists. Freshman Brooke DeGroff continued her consistent offensive production with 9 kills, 3 aces, 16 digs, and 1 block assist. 

The Lakers will ride a 5 game win streak into a home matchup with the Cayuga Community College Spartans on September 14th at 6 PM at Finger Lakes Community College.
