JAMESTOWN - It was a game of firsts for the Jamestown Community College baseball team as they split a pair of games against Genesee Community College Thursday afternoon.

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 7 - Genesee Community College 6

The Cougars got on the board in the top of the first but the Jayhawks (1-2, 1-1 WNYAC) responded, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore shortstop Roberto Aracena (Miami, FL/Citi Christian Academy) singled on a ground ball to right field, driving in freshman second baseman Ethan Abegg (Commerce City, CO/Prarie View HS). JCC tacked on their second run as designated hitter Nick Rini (Powhatan, VA/Knock HS) grounded into a fielder's choice but drove in sophomore right fielder German Nolasco (Spring Hill, FL/Weeki Wachee HS).

The Jayhawks extended their lead to 3-1 in the second as sophomore left fielder Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local) singled to center field, driving in sophomore catcher Lucas Porpiglia (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS).

GCC regained the lead in the third inning but JCC answered, scrong three runs of their own to take the 6-4 lead. Rini drove in Abegg to get the scoring started. Third baseman Josh Lupo (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) drove in the next two runs, driving in Aracena and Rini on a fielder's choice.

Lupo drove in the Jayhawks final run of the game, grounding into a fielder's choice as redshirt-freshman first baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) crossed home plate.

The Cougars drove in runs in the sixth and seventh inning but the rally would fall short.

Abegg led the hitting effort, getting two hits in four at bats. Rini and Lupo had the offense humming, driving in two runs each.

Redshirt-freshman Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) was credited with the win, his first collegiate win in his career. It was a great day for Jackson, getting his first win in nearly two years of absence due to Tommy Johns surgery, which put him on the shelf.

Jackson went five innings, fanning out three hits and getting seven strikeouts.

Aracena was credited with the save, going two innings and getting two strikeouts.

This was head coach Jordan Basile's first win as a Jayhawk since he was appointed to the position back in the spring of 2019.

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 0 - Genesee Community College 12, 6 innings

The Cougars scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings, taking a 4-0 lead early. GCC saw their lead grow in the sixth inning, driving in eight more runs.

Freshman pitcher Bryan Gardner (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) was credited with the loss, seeing two innings of action and surrendering three runs. Gardner did get two strikeouts during his time.

Sophomore pitcher Adonis Collado (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy HS/Cenapec) saw action in two innings, giving up two hits while getting four strikeouts.

Freshman pitcher Chris Calladine (Andover, NY/Andover Centers Look School) and sophomore pitcher Edwin Collado (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy HS) each saw action on the mound, pitching an inning each.

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, March 27th, as they will travel to Genesee Community College for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
