NCCC knocks off GCC for first victory

Niagara County Community College knocked off visiting Genesee Community College in a thrilling five-set Region III match on Thursday night. 

The scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 22-25 and 15-10 in favor of the Thunderwolves (1-5). The Cougars dropped to 1-5.

NCCC freshman Alyssa Winstanley led a balanced attack with a career-high 11 kills. Classmate Gianna Smalley put down nine kills and fellow frosh Marissa Dusza added eight kills. Sophomore Kim Norman contributed seven kills to go with seven digs and five service aces.

Freshman Jocelyn Swierski led the N-Trip defense with 27 digs, while classmate Kaitlin Hoadley had 28 assists and fellow first-year player Noor Kadhum chipped in with eight digs.

The T-Wolves wrap up their season-opening seven-game homestand at Noon Sunday when they host Tompkins-Cortland Community College in another important regional contest.
