The Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team had its biggest offensive output of the season on Saturday, scoring 13 runs in a doubleheader at Genesee Community College. The Panthers lost by scores of 21-4 and 18-9 to fall to 0-14 overall and 0-8 in the MSAC. Genesee is 5-16 overall and 2-4 in the MSAC.

Game One: Genesee 21, Tompkins Cortland 4  (5 innings)

It took a bit for the offense to get going in game one, but the Panthers put single runs across in the second and third innings before plating two in the fifth.

Lana Thousand (Onondaga/Onondaga H.S.) doubled in the second inning for the first hit of the game and later came around to score Tompkins Cortland's first run of the game. Austyn Vance (Nichols/Tioga H.S.) also had an extra-base hit with an RBI triple in the third inning. Abby Foley (Barton/Tioga H.S.) scored twice from the leadoff spot in game one.

Game Two: Genesee 18, Tompkins Cortland 9  (5 innings)

Genesee again jumped out to a big lead in the second game, but this time they were able to fight back with a big inning of their own. Trailing 7-0 heading to the bottom of the second, the Panthers erupted for five runs (more runs than they had scored in any game this season). The inning started with Karissa Wilbur (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) stroking a double, followed by each of the next five Panthers reaching with a single. After Genesee responded with four run in the third, the Panthers came back in their half of the frame to score three more to make the score 11-8 heading into the fourth. While the Panthers were just about done scoring, the Cougars kept pushing runs across, putting five more on the board in the fourth and two more in the fifth to provide the final margin.

The team's best offensive game of the season featured multiple hits from four different players. Wilbur and Hannah Forehand (Groton/Victory Christian Academy) each went 3-for-3 and Vance went 3-for-4. Abby Foley went 2-for-4 with another two runs scored.

Gabby Foley (Barton/Tioga H.S.) was once again the workhorse in the circle, throwing every pitch in both games. She also contributed at the plate driving in a run in each game.

Looking ahead
