Tribunes Slay Cougars in 60-52 Win

Monroe Community College's women's basketball team edged out GCC 60-52, fueled by stellar defense and a commanding first-half performance to improve to 4-3.

BATAVIA, NY - Monroe Community College's women's basketball team defeated the GCC Cougars 60-52, bringing their season record back above .500 at 4-3.

A dominant first half by the Tribunes gave them a commanding 34-16 lead at halftime. However, the Cougars surged in the second half, scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to just eight. Despite the late pressure, Monroe held on to claim the win.

The defense was the key to Monroe's success, as they held GCC to just 25.4% shooting from the field and 14.3% from beyond the arc. While the Cougars dominated the boards with a 48-34 rebounding advantage, Monroe's more efficient shooting (33.8%) proved to be enough.

Zarriah Eldridge (Rochester, NY) and Serenity Henderson (La Verne, CA) both led the team with 14 points, and Eldrige led the team with five steals. Skylah Kemp (Long Island, NY) was a key distributor, having five assists and leading in rebounds, alongside Maya Williams (Rochester, NY), with seven. 

Now back in the win column, the Tribunes will look to continue their success against Herkimer College.
