Amador Goes for Career High 36 Points Against #7 Genesee

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The FLCC (Finger Lakes Community College) men's basketball team faced off against the #7 Genesee Community Colege Cougars Wednesday night for a home NJCAA Region III matchup on the Putt Moore Court. The Lakers faced all tall task against the nationally ranked 18-5 Cougars, but stood tall against the opposition. 

The Lakers would play an even game with the Cougars are the majority of the first-half, but an early push in the first by the Cougars saw their lead grow to 21 points heading into the break. Standing out the for Lakers in the first-half were teammates Danny Amador (Naples, F.L./ Palmetto Ridge) and freshman Frankie Oropeza (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena). Amador would pace the Lakers in the first with 12 points on 50% shooting from the field, followed by three first-half 3-pointers from Oropeza on an efficent 43% from beyond the arc.

Coming out of the break, the teams would battle back and forth with no edge given to either side. For the Lakers, the half was highlighted by a dominant performance from sophomore Danny AmadorAmador would come out of the break and score 24 of the teams 35 points in the half, highlighted by a streak where Amador would knock down a jumper and back-to-back 3-pointers. 

Amador would end the night with a career high 36 points against the nationally ranked Cougars, shooting an efficent 14-23 from the field and 6-11 from behind the 3-point line. Amador would add 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals to his total to wrap up a valiant effort over the opposition. Following Amador in the scoring column was freshman Frankie Oropeza who would finish with 13 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Freshman Donevan Rotmans (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates Chili) would put together another impressive night on the boards, with a third-straight game of pulling in 10 or more, with 10 on the night. Rotmans would wrap up his night with twos across the stat sheet with 2 assists, rebounds, and points. Freshman teammate Spencer Reese (Farmington, N.Y.) would fall just short of a double-double, with 8 points and 9 rebounds to go along with a block on defense. Teammate Jorge Oropeza (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) would round out the Lakers night with an strong defensive effort, concluding the night with 4 defensive board, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. 

The Lakers will enjoy a 3-day break before kicking back off at home on Saturday, February 4th for regional matchup with the Saints of North Country Community College. The Saints enter Saturday's matchup with a record of 13-7. Saturday's game will also serve as sophomore day for the men's and women's basketball programs at FLCC.
