Thunderwolves improve to 8-0

Niagara County Community College canned 11 3-pointers and knocked down 30 free throws on its way to a commanding 99-73 non-conference home win over longtime rival Genesee Community College on Sunday afternoon.

The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 7 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improved to 8-0 on the season. The Cougars, who are No. 4 in the NJCAA Div. III poll, dropped to 7-2.

NCCC sophomore Lamar Lovelace had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead the charge. Freshman JaVaughn Jones had 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Also for N-Trip, sophomore Taylor Sanders scored 13 points, classmate LaMarqus Merchant Jr. had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists and freshman Oumaru Hydara chipped in with 10 points.

The T-Wolves led 53-34 at the half and held a 50-36 edge in rebounding. Pape Tunkara had 14 points for GCC.

NCCC returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Western New York Athletic Conference foe Jamestown Community College.
