Playing host to another of the top teams in the country, the Panthers men's soccer team lost to Genesee on Sunday, 5-1. It was the fourth loss to a team ranked in the top ten in the nation this year and drops the Panthers to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Genesee improves to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the MSAC.

On the day that sophomores were honored before the opening kick, the Panthers seemed to come out with more energy than in recent games. The play was back-and-forth in the opening minutes before Genesee broke through with a goal in the 15th minute. A second score came two minutes later, but the Panthers kept the deficit at two the rest of the half.

In the second half, Genesee set the tone with a goal in the third minute of action, and then salted it away with goals in the 70th and 73rd minutes. The Panthers got their score in the 80th minute, when Gabriel Lonsky (King Ferry/Southern Cayuga H.S.) played a hard cross that Jay Pearson (Penicuik, Scotland/Queen Victoria School) directed into the net.

Joshua Long (Colchester, U.K./Mamingtree H.S.) had 11 saves in goal.

Looking ahead

The Panthers close out the regular season on the road Wednesday, traveling to Binghamton to take on SUNY Broome.
