Tribune volleyball experienced a weekend of highs and lows in the WYNAC POD, enduring a tough loss to Genesee Community College before rebounding with a commanding victory over Jamestown Community College.
ROCHESTER, NY - In a rollercoaster weekend for Monroe Community College volleyball, the Tribunes faced a tough defeat against Genesee Community College before bouncing back with a strong performance against Jamestown Community College. The team's resilience and adaptability were on full display, highlighting both their challenges and triumphs.
Game 1: GCC
The Tribunes faced a challenging matchup against Genesee Community College (GCC), ultimately falling in straight sets with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-22.
The first set started competitively, with MCC displaying moments of promise. Norah O'Connor (Plain City, OH) led the charge with three kills, contributing to an aggressive offensive strategy. However, despite a valiant effort, the team fell short, allowing GCC to pull away and secure the first set 25-21.
As the match progressed into the second set, the dynamics shifted. MCC struggled to keep pace with GCC, whose attack overwhelmed their Monroe defense. Elana Barrett (Langsville, OH) and Madalyn Robinson (Attica, NY) each attempted to spark a comeback, but with GCC effectively controlling the game, the set concluded at 25-14, leaving MCC with much to ponder.
In the third and final set, MCC fought valiantly to regain their footing. Kylee Storch (Williamsville, NY) and Robinson were instrumental in rallying their teammates, delivering several crucial points, and showcasing their ability to respond under pressure. The team showed resilience, bringing the score to 22 points, but it was not enough to stave off GCC's momentum. Ultimately, the match ended with a score of 25-22 in favor of Genesee, sealing a 3-0 victory for the visiting team.
Game 2: JCC
Monroe Community College showcased their volleyball prowess with a commanding 3-0 victory over Jamestown Community College, (25-18, 25-20, and 25-20).
Monroe's offense was led by standout player Madalyn Robinson (Attica, NY), who delivered an outstanding performance with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .259. Her offensive contributions were pivotal, consistently finding gaps in the Jamestown defense. Jenna Tracy (Hilton, NY) also made a significant impact, contributing six kills and demonstrating versatility on the court. The duo's ability to finish crucial points helped Monroe maintain momentum and dictate the flow of the match.
In addition to their offensive strength, Monroe's defense was equally strong. Elana Barrett (Langsville, OH) excelled at the net, registering three blocks and effectively neutralizing Jamestown's attacking efforts.
