Volleyball Splits Matches at Jamestown Pod

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball program split their matches, falling to Genesee is five sets before defeating host Jamestown in four sets at the Jamestown pod on Saturday morning in Jamestown, NY.

GAME ONE: Genesee 3, Hudson Valley 2 (25-18, 24-26, 13-25, 25-23, 10-15)

In the opening match of the day, the Vikings went the distance for the first time this year against Genesee. Hudson Valley needed to rally in the fourth set to force the decisive fifth set, which they ultimately lost 15-10.

As a team, the Vikings accumulated eight services aces, 90 digs and 37 kills over the five-set match. Abbigail Newell led the offensive with five service aces and added seven kills, while Abby Taylor attacked the net with a team-best 14 kills. Taylor also finished with two blocks and three digs in the opening game.

Regina Salazar-Ware continued to pass the ball well as she tallied a team-best 31 assists and added one kill and eight digs. Adriana Diaz Rolon and Newell handled the majority of the defensive responsibilities as they combined for 47 digs with Diaz Rolon accumulating 24 digs and Newell added 23 digs.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 3, Jamestown 1 (25-20, 25-19, 12-25, 25-16)

In the final match of the day, the Vikings defeated host, Jamestown in four sets. The match win gives the Vikings their third Region 3 win as they continue to work towards a postseason berth this season.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 86 digs and 39 kills over the five-set match. Abby Taylor led the offensive attack with a team-best 13 kills, while Sidney Phillips and Abbigail Newell each added nine kills. Phillips also led the defense with two blocks, while Newell tallied a team-high 28 digs.

Regina Salazar-Ware handled all of the passing as she accumulated all of the team's 31 assists against the Cougars. Libero, Adriana Diaz Rolon also had a nice defensive match as she finished with 23 digs and added a team-best three service aces.

The volleyball program is scheduled to travel to take on Mohawk Valley in a Mountain Valley Conference matchup this Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in Utica, NY.
