Lakers Drop Narrow Matchup to Cougars

BATAVIA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team fell to 9-13 following a road loss to the Genesee Community College Cougars Tuesday evening. The Cougars' 12 point advantage going into halftime proved to be enough, despite the Lakers outscoring them in the second half.

Freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) led the team with an impressive 22 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the field, which included two three-pointers. Shears' dynamic play was complemented by his contribution of 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals in the game. Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep) provided solid support with 17 points and 9 rebounds, showcasing his presence in the paint with 2 blocks as well. Edwards-Ferrell would make the most of his shooting opportunities, sinking 8 of his 11 shots from the field.

Teammate James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) added 13 points, including a three-pointer, and led the team in the assist category with 5. Jace Brown (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) and Slayde Huntley (Herrin, IL./Herrin) each added 10 points, with Huntley hitting two three-pointers. Off the bench, Bruce Wilder Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) added 6 points and 3 rebounds, providing valuable minutes and scoring to help keep the Lakers competitive throughout the matchup.

Despite bringing the game within striking distance in the final two minutes, the Lakers will search for a win in their next matchup this Thursday, February 1st on the road against Fulton-Montgomery Community College with tip-off scheduled for 7 PM.
