NCCC hangs tough with defending champs

Niagara County Community College battled for 90 minutes, but came up on the short end of an 8-0 decision to defending NJCAA Div. III National Champion and Region III rival Genesee Community College on Wednesday. The Thunderwolves dropped to 2-3 on the season.

Playing with a strong defensive gameplan in mind, NCCC trailed only 3-0 at halftime. The score stayed there until the match's final 12 minutes when the nationally-ranked Cougars struck quickly, netting five more goals to blow the game wide open. NCCC freshman goalkeeper John Pearson continued his strong play, making 22 saves. In total, though, GCC held a huge 43-5 advantage in shots.

Next up for the T-Wolves is an important regional contest against Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday.
