Herkimer Men's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker at Genesee

In a hard-fought battle on the road, the Herkimer Generals men's basketball team fell to the Genesee Cougars in overtime, 75-72, on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Generals led 37-32 at halftime, showcasing strong defense and consistent scoring. However, the Cougars mounted a second-half comeback, tying the game at 64 to force overtime. Despite a valiant effort in the extra period, the Generals couldn't overcome Genesee's clutch shooting and free-throw efficiency.
 
Freshman Kenny Freeman (Rochester, NY) was a standout for Herkimer, leading all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting while also grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double. Sophomore Oladele Oladitan (Staten Island, NY) also posted a double-double, contributing 15 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Sophomore Jayden Norris (St. Louis, MO) added 7 points and was a defensive presence with a steal, while sophomore Tajuan Thomas (Atlanta, GA) came off the bench to chip in eight points and eight rebounds. The Generals dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Cougars 48-38, but struggled with turnovers, committing 14.
 
For Genesee, Rayvon Weir delivered a stellar performance, leading the Cougars with 27 points, including six three-pointers. Zaphian Scott added 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Carlos Perez contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Cougars' edge from beyond the arc, shooting 40.7% compared to Herkimer's 23.5%, proved pivotal.
