The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team was swept by Genesee Community College on Sunday, losing 21-5 and 12-2.  The Panthers are now 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the West Division. Genesee is 16-1 overall 7-1 in the West Division.

Game One: Genesee 21, Tompkins Cortland 5 (5 innings)

The Panthers played from behind all day, starting with the opener. Genesee led off the game with a triple, eventually scoring four runs in the first inning on three hits, a walk, and an error. The game got out of hand in the second inning, with the Cougars nearly batting around twice while scoring 13 runs. The Panthers finally got on the board in the fourth, taking advantage of three walks, two hits batters, and two errors to send 10 to the plate and score four runs. Genesee put a cap on their game with four runs in the top of the fifth, and after a triple by Dan Mrowinski (Syracuse/Solvay H.S.) led to a run for the Panthers in the bottom of the inning, the game went final at 21-5.

Mrowinski had a 2-for-2 game with two runs scored. Nazier Smith (Williamsport, Penn./Saint John Nuemann Regional Academy) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Game Two: Genesee 12, Tompkins Cortland 2  (5 innings)

Just like in game one, Genesee set the tone early in game two. After a walk and error to start the frame, the Cougars were able to string together four straight hits with the big blast coming in the form of a three-run triple. By the time the Panthers turned a 4-6-3 double play to get out of the inning, the score was 5-0. After another run in the top of the second made it 6-0, the Panthers started to get back into the game. Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Penn./Sayre Area H.S.) lead off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, made third on a single by Smith, and then came in on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Bogacz (Morrisville/Morrisville-Eaton H.S.). The Panthers cut into the lead a little more in the third when Frank Marra (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown H.S.) was hit by a pitch, moved to third on an error on a pick-off attempt, and then came in to score when the catcher threw to first to complete a strikeout after dropping a third strike. The 6-2 score after three innings was as close the home ream would get as Genesee plated three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to push the margin to ten runs and end the game due to the run rule.

The Panthers managed just two hits in game two, singles by VanDuzer and Smith. VanDuzer started the game on the mound, taking the loss while throwing three innings.
