John Polonius, a native of Curaçao, played baseball for the Cougars from 2009 through 2011. As the starting shortstop in 2010, Polonius was the top hitter and was named NJCAA Region III All-Conference First Team. At the beginning of 2011, Polonius was a preseason all-American and he ended that season with a batting average of .370 in 81 at bats. He was again a NJCAA Region III All-Conference First Team selection and was named 2011 GCC Male Athlete of the Year. Polonius was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and played one until he signed on with the San Francisco Giants as a non-drafted free agent in 2012, where is still plays today.
