Cougar athletes of the week have been selected for contests played last week and through Sept. 9. For the female athlete of the week, Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto was selected from the volleyball team; while the male athlete of the week went to Rodrigo Albuquerque of the men's soccer team for the second week in a row.
Pinto was named National Junior College Athletic Association D-III Offensive Player of the Week and the NJCAA region III Female Athlete of the Wek after she led the Cougars to a 3-1 record last week. She was in the top-five in four Region III categories, and in the top-20 in five based on per-set statistics.
Her hitting percentage was first in the region at .358, she also ranked first in points-per-set with 4.9 and also led in service aces per-set with 1.54. In addition, Pinto was fifth in kills-per-set with 3.15 and 16th in digs-per-set with 3.77. In three of those aforementioned categories, she was in the nation's top-30 that included hitting percentage at No. 14, points-per-set at No. 16, and kills-per-set at No. 28.
Albuquerque was the lone soccer player to record a goal in each of the Cougars' three games last week. He started with a pair against Corning and followed that as Genesee's only goal scorer against Mt. San Antonio College, before finishing the weekend with a hat trick against Prince George's.
The freshman was also named NJCAA Region-III Male Athlete of the Week.
